Women’s World Day of Prayer

Our prayers can change the world

Our prayers are an amazing opportunity to sit in the presence of our Father and bring our heart’s concerns to Him. See again Jeremiah 17:7 from yesterday’s reading.

Today I want to challenge you to start preparing for one day of global prayer – by women like you and I – who are committed to making a difference to the injustices and oppression faced by so many women, men and children around the world. Imagine just how powerful a day of prayer is – for one entire day the globe will be encircled and blanketed by the prayers of women from 160 countries worldwide that are praying toward the same goal.

What is the WWDP?

What is the Women’s World Day of Prayer? WWDP is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women in more than 160 countries, who come together to observe a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March every year. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER brings together women of various races, cultures and churches in fellowship and understanding. You can read more on their site.

2 March 2012

For the 2012 WWDP the Christian women of Malaysia have prepared the theme for this year’s day of prayer as “Let Justice Prevail“.

Although Malaysia’s multi-ethnicity has added to the rich heritage of its land and people, it has also given rise to many problems and challenges. Justice for
all is the hope and prayer of the people. “Let Justice Prevail”.

Our challenge

I hope that you will seriously consider the task of starting preparations to join in the day of prayer.

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Col 3:23 NLT

God bless!

Prayer

Prayer

is such an important, essential component of our relationship with God, yet (especially in my life) it is often the first task to be sacrificed when I get busy / stressed / distracted etc etc etc. Do you struggle with your prayer life?

A gift

Prayer is an opportunity to sit down for (a cup of coffee and…) a hearty, personal chat with God, my Father. We are invited to sit down, tune out the world, share our troubles, offer thanks and praise and listen as God speaks to us. (“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:17 NLT)

Prayer deepens our relationship with God, it strengthens our faith and, most importantly for me, it ensures that my focus is always right where it should be. On Jesus. Looking to Him for guidance, for reprieve, for love, for everything. Much like marriage, your relationship with God can’t be sustained meaningfully and intimately if you don’t set aside time to spend with your Loved One.

The challenge

I have already stated that I used to struggle with maintaining a constant commitment to my prayer life. As much as I have seen the power of God manifested in my life through (pro)active prayer, I still sometimes chose to get busy with other things. What made a big difference in my prayer life was:

  • My prayer journal. Instead of just sitting down for time with God, I take my journal and write down all my thoughts, requests and even heartfelt thanks for the prayers He has answered. The dialogue is more real to me and I have a tangible record of the power of God at work in my life the moment I activate it through prayer
  • Specific time. Finding a gap between work, my SAMM, our Super-Star and all the rest of life was a challenge until I figured out that there is a way to put God first and spend time with Him every day. I get up an hour before my SAMM and our Super-Star and I have a Cuppa with God. I make a fresh cup, I open the windows to let in some fresh morning air and I enjoy the silence that runs through our home before all the crazy activity starts. It is during this time that I read my Bible, journal and pray. The time spent on each activity may differ from day-to-day.
  • Every day. My commitment to spend time with God everyday remains a challenge. Sometimes I need to work late and early rising just seems impossible. But I have learnt that on those mornings when I don’t have an hour to share, the most important activity for ME is to take 5 minutes to surrender my day, my family, my marriage, my life to the Lord. I believe that God desperately wants to get intimate with each of us as often as possible but intimacy is not measured by how much time you have to offer.

As women

our prayers are an opportunity to bless our husbands, marriages and our friendship. We can carry our children to God and ask for His protection. We can make a powerful difference in the lives of those who are in need (and let’s face it, we are ALL in need).

I believe that it is our obligation to reach in and out through an active life of prayer. I hope you will take me up on this ‘prayer-quest’!

A prayer for you & me

Sometimes when we don’t have our own words, we can look for inspiration from others.

From “Power Prayers for Women” by Jackie M Johnson

“Lord I feel like a withered plant with dry, brown leaves. Help me connect with You in prayer so I can grow strong and healthy – inside and out – like a vibrant green tree. You are my source of living water. Teach me to be still, to listen, to absorb what you want to reveal to me in this time of inward filling. In this holy conversation, may I find freedom, peace and joy – and a closer walk with You. Amen.”

“But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT

Thanks for sharing my Cuppa with me.
