Yesterday I was reminded of the value of friendship. As a (relational) woman I find more and more that I need to surround myself with like-minded friends who share my desire to dream big, expect the impossible, face the implausible and that are willing to live with my opinions, my fiery nature and eccentricities.
These days I can count on in single digits those women that I consider to be my close friends. Previously, I would have been concerned – what was I doing wrong, am I not a good enough friend?? Am I not committed?? Dependable? Now I realise that one friend is more than enough if they are a true friend. Theoretically then, I am blessed when I am able to count past one when I think of friends who continually make an impact on my life.
One of my favourite quotes about friendship still is
Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty. Sicilian Proverb
I am endowed with friends who will do that. They also keep me honest and passionate. Their support and applause keep me going when I doubt and their sincere criticism reminds me that there is always room for improvement. Best of all, their love reminds me that I am important enough.
Say thank you to your friends today.
In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. Albert Schweitzer
